Music Lessons

Four 30-minute music lessons per month = $110

$27.50 for each 30-minute music lesson in the summer semester.

Fall and Spring Semester tuition is due at the beginning of the month.
Summer tuition will be due for the number of lessons signed up for by the first of each month (June 1, July 1, and August 1)

You must let available summer instructors know how many lessons you want to take

Please be mindful of the registration fees for the Fall and Spring Semesters ($25 each)

The recital at the end of each Fall and Spring semester counts as one lesson. Music lessons are scheduled by the instructor. Not all instructors have open slots. All music lessons require the student to have their own instrument to practice on at home. Music instructors may require other materials. Music lessons are held on our campus unless otherwise stated.

*During the summer period, students must let instructors know at least 24 hours prior to lesson time if they will be absent. Otherwise, the student is charged for the lesson.


Piano

  • Haeun Chung

    Haeun Chung is an experienced and passionate piano tutor with experience working with a wide variety of students. She graduated from University of Seoul and received a degree in classical piano and English literature. She also trained under Dr. Neve at San Francisco State University as an exchange student. She has over 10 years of piano performance and music theory tutoring experience including various generations, In South Korea, she volunteered to teach low income families, including children, single parents, and disabled children as well. She also accompanied numerous choir performances, and other instrument soloist such as violin, oboe, flute, cello, voice, and so on. She is currently working at a church as a pianist. She is a strong believer in the importance of practice and works with her students to help motivate and encourage them if they struggle. With Haeun, students are getting classic quality tutoring that will truly help them grow as a pianist.

  • Chris Miller

    Chris’s method of teaching is “Hands On!” Each students teaching is adjusted to their specific needs.

  • Shirley Queen

    In her lessons, Mrs. Queen utilizes a variety of piano books, including the Alfred, Bastien, and Faber methods. Sometimes technic and scale books are used along with flashcards and games. She uses method books that are age appropriate for beginners through advanced students. After the basics have been established, the student will then have the opportunity to learn songs in the style or music genre that interests them, including pop, Disney, Broadway, hymns, and classical.

  • Christopher Sims

    Christopher Sims teaches piano and playing by ear for ages 3 and up. He caters the curriculum to the passions of each student so materials vary individually.

  • Jocelyn Thompson

    Jocelyn’s goal for all of her piano students, regardless of the texts used, is to teach all correct technical aspects of playing piano, with emphasis placed on note reading, ear training, sight reading, and music theory concepts. Beginning students will use a piano method that consists of several different books. Personal piano series include Bastien, Alfred, and Noona. There is a basic lesson book, note speller, music theory, technique, and recital book (as well as hymns and popular solos) for each level. As the student progresses, separate piano literature is gradually introduced along with major and minor scales and arpeggios. The intermediate to advanced student will be given basic piano literature to study along with continued sight reading, music theory, and technical studies (Cramer, Czerny, Hanon, etc.). Teaching methods will be geared towards the student’s long range goal (major in piano, hobby, preparation, etc.).

Strings

  • Chris Leich

    Chris teaches guitar & bass guitar. Each student is unique. Chris would like to connect with the interests of whoever he is working with to help them achieve their goals. Being musical is a way of thinking, how to apply what you already know to what you want to do and when you can put a personal spin on it. Building up one’s musical vocabulary and familiarity with an instrument in ways that interest them will slowly improve what they can do with the medium of music.

  • Laura Sullens

    Laura teaches cello, violin, and viola. As a teacher, Laura believes that through a mixture of consistency, determination, and proper technique anyone can become proficient at their chosen instrument. Her goal is to create a positive learning environment where every student can reach their full artistic potential. She draws from the Suzuki Method as well as others, such as Sevcik and Feuillard. She does have recommended materials for her students to have with them during their lesson.

Woodwinds

  • Heather Gering

    Heather teaches oboe, bassoon, flute, saxophone, and her specialty the clarinet..

Percussion

  • Chris Miller

    Chris teaches fundamentals in percussion and teaches his percussion students to develop a skill to approach nearly any percussion instrument with confidence. Drum set independence and style study, rudimental techniques and study of rudiments for marching percussion, Timpani technique and tuning, and finally repertoire study and guidance to enhance solo performance.
